Decision Based on Ethics Committee Findings and Recommendations
Colombo, Sri Lanka ( 8th May 2025) – In a dramatic turn of events, the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOCSL) has voted to ban its suspended Secretary General Maxwell De Silva for five years, following a damning report from its Ethics Committee.
The unanimous decision was taken by ten out of thirteen members of the NOCSL Executive Committee during a meeting held earlier this evening. De Silva’s ban is based on findings and recommendations presented by the Ethics Committee, which was specifically appointed to investigate a plethora of allegations based on fraud, corruption and human smuggling.
Three members were not present at the meeting: Assistant Secretary Chandan Liyanage, who is himself currently under suspension, Vice President Kanchana Jayaratne, and Sarath Hewavitharana.
This decisive action marks a significant moment in the governance of Sri Lankan sport, signaling a potential shift toward greater accountability and ethical oversight within the NOCSL.
More details are expected to emerge as this story develops.
