Peradeniya, May 30, 2025 — Renowned academic and former Senior Lecturer in the Department of Sinhala Studies at the University of Peradeniya, Attanayake M. Herath, has passed away at the age of 73.
Mr. Herath breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital, following a brief illness.
A respected figure in the field of Sinhala language and literature, Mr. Herath dedicated decades of his life to teaching and research, shaping generations of students and contributing significantly to the academic discourse in Sri Lanka.
His passing marks a profound loss to the academic community, particularly in the humanities and cultural studies fields.
