Deputy Minister Mahinda Jayasinghe has issued a fiery warning in response to recent allegations surrounding the alleged release of 323 uninspected containers from the port, targeting critics like Udaya Gammanpila and naming Thusitha Halloluwa as an example.
Speaking to reporters, Jayasinghe declared,
“What happened to Hallolu, the gossiper, will also happen to Gammanpila and others who recklessly spread baseless rumors about the government.”
He emphasized that those who have genuine accusations should follow proper procedure and submit formal complaints instead of indulging in political gossip. “We’re ready to investigate any formal complaint against the government. But if they choose to gossip instead of taking the proper path, they must also be ready to face the consequences,” he warned.
The minister’s remarks come amid mounting public scrutiny over claims that hundreds of containers were released from port storage without going through proper customs inspections, a charge that opposition voices have used to question government transparency and accountability.
Jayasinghe’s comments signal a growing intolerance from government ranks toward unofficial accusations and a call for critics to back their claims with evidence or stay silent.
