In a bold new move blending public welfare with financial innovation, Transport Minister and Leader of the House, Bimal Ratnayake, officially launched ‘Suba Dawasak – Sihina Dinayi’ (translated as Good Day – Dreams Win), a brand-new lottery that aims to fund national development and offer citizens a shot at life-changing rewards.
The launch ceremony was held on June 13, 2025, at the Ministry of Ports premises on Chaithya Road, Colombo. Minister Ratnayake, speaking as the chief guest, emphasized that the government is firmly committed to using people’s money transparently not only to boost state revenue but to return its benefits back to the people through impactful development and social welfare initiatives.
“The people’s money must be invested transparently. That investment must create a return to the people themselves,” the Minister declared.
He underscored the importance of trust, calling on the National Lotteries Board (NLB) now operating under a revitalized leadership to enhance its service quality and become a more effective contributor to national progress.
Ratnayake also revealed plans to coordinate with Sri Lanka Railways and the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) to assist in the distribution and transport of lottery tickets islandwide, noting that such partnerships will strengthen public service collaboration while boosting logistical efficiency.
“This can be an opportunity for good coordination between institutions with benefits even for the Ministry of Transport,” he added.
The ‘Suba Dawasak’ ticket is the latest innovation from the NLB, known for consistently introducing fresh avenues of hope and fortune to Sri Lankans. The launch was graced by a host of dignitaries and officials, including:
- Professor Kapila Perera – Secretary to the Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation
- M.D.A.C. Perera – Chairman, National Lotteries Board
- Sanjeewa Edirisinghe – Acting General Manager and Attorney-at-Law
- T.D. Rasika Prabodhini – Chief Financial Officer
The event reflected a broader government agenda: to diversify revenue streams, promote public-private collaboration, and offer hope through small investments that could yield big rewards both individually and nationally.
With the launch of Suba Dawasak, citizens not only buy a ticket to chase their dreams but also buy into a future of national growth and shared prosperity.
