Students from Thambuttegama Central College Tour President’s House and Learn About Civic Leadership
A group of enthusiastic students from Thambuttegama Central College in Anuradhapura made a memorable visit to the Presidential Secretariat and President’s House today (June 20), as part of their annual educational tour.
The students participated in the ‘Vision’ programme—a civic education initiative designed for schoolchildren, jointly organised by the Presidential Secretariat, the Ministry of Education, and the Department of Communication of the Parliament of Sri Lanka.
As part of the tour, the students explored the historic Old Parliament building located within the Presidential Secretariat, where they were given a briefing on Sri Lanka’s parliamentary history, including the evolution of democratic governance and the legislative process.
The visit also provided valuable insight into the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ initiative—a national environmental sustainability campaign launched under the direction of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. The students and their teachers were educated on the importance of environmental conservation, the role of the executive branch, and the principles of the rule of law in modern governance.
Highlighting the significance of environmental awareness, Legal Advisor to the President J.M. Wijebandara symbolically presented a valuable sapling to the school, encouraging students to take active roles in ecological protection.
The event was attended by:
- Senior Additional Secretary to the President K.N.M. Kumarasinghe
- Colonel Dhananjaya Senarath, Deputy Director, Tri-Forces Security Affairs Coordinating Unit
- M.G. Asanka Wijesuriya, Deputy Principal of Thambuttegama Central College
- Accompanying teaching staff and other officials
The visit served not only as a learning experience but also as an inspiring moment for the students to understand the responsibilities of civic leadership, sustainability, and national governance.
