National People’s Power MP Nanda Bandara, representing the Kegalle District, was hospitalized following a late-night car accident on June 26 in Hemmathagama. The MP’s vehicle reportedly veered off the road and collided with a high-voltage electricity pole, resulting in widespread power outages across the town and nearby areas.
According to police reports, the incident occurred while MP Bandara was driving alone through Hemmathagama town. The impact of the collision snapped a major power line, immediately cutting off electricity in multiple areas.
Emergency services rushed the injured Member of Parliament to Mawanella Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. His condition is stable, and no other individuals were involved in the accident.
Following the crash, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) initiated urgent repair work to restore the disrupted power supply. Crews worked through the night to reestablish the grid and minimize the inconvenience caused to residents.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation by local law enforcement authorities.
