Eight cattle also killed in accident
(COLOMBO) – One person was killed and eight others injured on Wednesday in a head on collision between a public passenger bus and a van at Elephant Pass in Kilinochchi some 356 kilometres north of the commercial capital of Colombo, police said.
Five of the injured have sustained life-threatening injuries and are being treated at a regional Government hospital.
The State-owned passenger bus packed with passengers had rammed into the van after it had attempted to avert a group of stray cattle that appeared on the road.
Eight cattle were also killed in the incident, according to police.
The passenger bus was moving from Jaffna in the north to Kandy in the central province when it rammed into the van that was returning from Colombo.
