West Indies Under-19 emerged victorious against Sri Lanka Under-19, clinching a thrilling 3 wicket win in the Super Six stage. The match went down to the wire, showcasing a remarkable fight from both sides, but it was the West Indies who maintained their composure, securing two crucial points in a heart-breaking defeat for Sri Lanka.
Facing a challenging target of 232 set by Sri Lanka, the West Indies’ aggressive approach at the top order paid off, with skipper Stephan Pascal and Steve Wedderburn laying a solid foundation with a 48-run opening stand. Pascal displayed sensational form until a lapse in concentration led to his dismissal. Despite quick wickets, Jordan Johnson and Steve Wedderburn crafted an impressive 86-run partnership, placing the Windies in a commanding position. However, Sri Lanka scripted a twist in the tale, making a spirited comeback to keep the contest intense.
The spin duo of Sineth Jayawardena and Vishwa Kumara posed a significant threat, dismissing set-batters Johnson and Wedderburn within eight deliveries. Sri Lanka managed to apply the squeeze, conceding only 25 runs and claiming a wicket in the overs spanning 31 to 40. Nathan Sealy’s excellent innings, supported by Tarrique Edward, guided the West Indies to victory. Sealy showcased remarkable batting, ensuring a steady flow of runs and forming a crucial partnership with Edward to seal the win.
