(COLOMBO) – The ban on the import of vehicles into the country is set to stay on but would be relaxed in stages on the advice of the Central Bank, Cabinet Spokesman Bandula Gunawardene said on Wednesday.
Due to the ongoing financial crisis and import restrictions, the government announced that it would not be impossible to import vehicles for a considerable period of time.
The import restrictions will however be relaxed carefully and gradually, Gunawardene said.
The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) will inform the Cabinet on how they take decisions to relax the import restrictions gradually.
