(COLOMBO) – Sri Lanka’s main Opposition the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) is packing its ranks with ex security force commanders ahead of a scheduled presidential election that is to be held later this year.
On Wednesday, the former Sri Lanka Navy Commander Daya Sandagiri obtained membership of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) from its leader Sajith Premadasa and has been appointed as an advisor to the party.
This latest development comes barely a week after Sri Lanka’s former Army Commander Daya Ratnayake joined the ranks of the SJB.
A former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka that led his forces to crush the separatist Tamil Tigers in 2009 has been with the SJB for a considerable period of time.
Fonseka also unsuccessfully contested the 2010 presidential elections.
