Vijay free electricity order gives Tamil Nadu residents 200 units, as TVK forms government after six decades of DMK-AIADMK rule.
Vijay free electricity promise has become his first major act as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, with 200 units granted to residents of the state.
Vijay, leader of the Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam party, signed his first official order after being sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
The order provides 200 units of free electricity to residents across the state, marking a dramatic opening move by the actor-turned-politician.
He was sworn in as Chief Minister at a grand ceremony held in Chennai on Sunday.
The occasion marked the first time in nearly 60 years that a party other than the DMK or AIADMK has formed a government in Tamil Nadu.
In addition to the free electricity order, Vijay’s new administration has also moved to establish a special task force to combat the drug menace in the state.
Steps have also been taken to create a special force to strengthen women’s safety, along with an emergency assistance service.
Vijay emphasised that his government will give full attention to education, health, water, and the welfare of farmers and fishermen.
Beginning his first address as Chief Minister, he used the Tamil phrase “People who dwell in my heart,” an expression he has frequently used when addressing his fans.
He said that, as the son of an assistant director, he understands poverty and hunger well.
Vijay also stressed that he is not a descendant of a royal family.
Although Tamil Nadu is currently burdened with debt amounting to one lakh crore rupees, he promised that neither he nor his government would allow even a single cent of public money to be misused.
The new government has been formed with the support of several parties, including the Congress.
However, Vijay’s administration must prove its majority in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly before May 13.
The coming days will therefore be crucial, as Tamil Nadu watches whether the new Chief Minister can convert his first wave of public promises into stable political power.
