SA20 (Game 33) – Qualifier 2 – Joburg Super Kings vs Durban Super Giants
Durban’s Super Giants smashed the Joburg Super Kings, both with the bat and ball, securing convincing 69-run victory to make it into the SA20 Finals. Heinrich Klaasen’s explosive innings towards the end of the first innings, poppelled the Super Giants to a mammoth score. Coupled with a disciplined bowling effort Junior Dala, Ul Haq and Proterius, the Super Giants skittled the Super Kings at home with relative ease.
Batting first, Durban did not have everything go their way at first. Joburg’s strong and confident bowling attack picked up three wickets in the opening 7 overs of the match. Slipping to 52 for 3, Bhanuka Rajapaksa held his team together with a crucial 25, just long enough to bring back life to the Super Giants dug out. This paved the way for a last minute shelling, courtesy of skipper Wiaan Mulder and Heinrich Klaasen. Klaasen’s blistering 74 off just 30 balls, supported by Mulder’s composed half-century propelled the team to a formidable total of 211 runs.
Despite brief resistance from Moeen Ali, Reeza Hendricks, and Donovan Ferreira, the Super Kings struggled to keep up with the required run rate, eventually falling short of the target. Junior Dala played a destructive role, scalping four middle and low order Joburg batter for just 38 runs in his 3.4 overs. Dwaine Pretorius, Naveen-ul-Haq, and Reece Topley also contributed with crucial wickets, maintaining pressure on the opposition throughout the innings. Together they bundled the Super Kings out for 142 by the 18th over, making their way into the SA20 Final.
Durban’s Super Giants’ comprehensive victory was a result of their dominant all-round performance this season, with notable contributions from both their batsmen and bowlers. The team’s ability to capitalize on key moments and maintain intensity throughout the match proved instrumental and now advanced to the finals.
