President Anura Kumara Dissanayake says statements must be recorded from anyone named in investigations, stressing equal respect for the law.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has said statements must be recorded from anyone whose name emerges during an investigation, stressing that this is a normal legal process.
The President made the remarks while attending the Special District Coordination Committee meeting held in Matale this morning (12).
Speaking further, the President said Sri Lanka does not need a political or social culture where the mere mention of a person’s name during an investigation is treated as a major disaster.
He pointed out that no one is above the law. The President also said that even if any matter is revealed about himself, a statement can be recorded from him as well, adding that such procedures are part of the ordinary legal process.
President Dissanayake emphasised that everyone must work toward creating a cultural transformation in society where all individuals are equal before the law, subject to the law, and respectful of the law.
During the special meeting held at the Matale District Secretariat, officials also made extensive inquiries into the payment of compensation to those affected by Cyclone Ditwa and the steps taken to restore their livelihoods.
