SJB expels five Bulathsinghala Pradeshiya Sabha councillors after video evidence allegedly showed money being accepted during a political dispute.
The SJB has removed five councillors from the Bulathsinghala Pradeshiya Sabha with immediate effect after allegations surfaced over their conduct while representing the opposition.
The councillors, who belonged to the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, had faced serious accusations from the time the Bulathsinghala Pradeshiya Sabha was established, with claims that they had accepted money. A video said to support the allegations was reportedly handed over to Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa by a prominent monk from the Bulathsinghala area.
The related visual and audio footage allegedly confirms that the councillors themselves accepted the money.
According to reports, following a formal investigation continuously carried out by Councillor Jagath Witana, the decision was taken to expel the five individuals from both the party and their respective positions.
