A Godigamuwa woman found dead inside her Ratnapura home has prompted a special police investigation and a post-mortem examination.
A Godigamuwa woman found dead inside her Ratnapura home has prompted police to launch a special investigation into the suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.
Police identified the woman as 32-year-old Gamage Nisansala Sadamali. She had reportedly been living alone at her residence in the Godigamuwa area.
Authorities discovered her body on July 10, 2026, after concerned neighbours alerted the Ratnapura Police Station.
Sadamali had been crowned a New Year Queen during the previous year. Officers found her lying unresponsive on a bed inside the house.
She was wearing only a T-shirt on the upper part of her body. Police said the lower part of her body was unclothed, increasing concerns about the circumstances surrounding her death.
Neighbours told investigators that Sadamali had lived a highly reclusive life for some time. She reportedly kept the main entrance closed and rarely interacted with people in the surrounding community.
Open Door Prompts Neighbours to Alert Police
The incident came to light after neighbours noticed an unusual change at the property.
They said the house’s main entrance had remained open continuously since July 7. Because Sadamali normally kept the door closed, the situation raised immediate suspicion.
The neighbours subsequently contacted the Ratnapura Police Station and reported their concerns.
A police team arrived at the residence and searched the house. Officers then found the Godigamuwa woman dead on a bed.
Police believe she may have been dead for some time before authorities entered the property. However, investigators have not yet announced the exact time or cause of death.
The condition in which officers found the body has added to the suspicious nature of the case.
Ratnapura Police Begin Special Investigation
Ratnapura police have opened a special investigation to establish what happened inside the house.
Investigators are examining the scene and reviewing whether anyone forcibly entered the property. They are also looking for evidence of other suspicious activity connected to the death.
Authorities transferred Sadamali’s body to Ratnapura Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The examination is expected to determine the precise cause of death and help investigators establish whether criminal activity played a role.
Police have not announced any arrests or named any suspects. The investigation remains ongoing as officers await the post-mortem findings.
