Jayden Adams death leaves the world mourning the Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder. Adams died only weeks after representing South Africa at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America. He was 25.
South African Police opened an inquest after officers discovered the body of a 25-year-old man at a residence on Military Road in Schotsche Kloof, central Cape Town, on Saturday morning, July 11.
Police reported to the property at approximately 11 a.m. Investigators are still examining the circumstances surrounding his death. Authorities have not announced an official cause.
South Africa’s Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, confirmed the footballer’s death, describing Adams as one of the brightest young talents in South African football.
“It is with profound shock and a heavy heart that I have learnt of the passing of Jayden Adams,” McKenzie said.
He added that the country mourned alongside Adams’ family, teammates and millions of supporters. They had watched him develop from an academy prospect into a full South African international.
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa also offered his condolences to Adams’ family following the midfielder’s sudden death.
The Presidency described Adams as an outstanding young sportsman. It also acknowledged his achievements with Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Meanwhile, the South African Football Players’ Union said the country had lost a gifted player and proud servant of the sport. The union said Adams still had much to offer.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino joined senior football figures in paying tribute. Messages of grief continued to spread across South Africa and the wider international football community.
