A Port City clash involving Chinese nationals left two injured, one allegedly abducted and police investigating a pistol found in a vehicle.
A Port City clash between two groups of Chinese nationals has left two people injured, while a third man is feared to have been abducted by the rival group.
Police said the confrontation occurred during the early hours of Thursday, July 23, within the Colombo Port City premises.
Two Chinese nationals suffered injuries during the incident. Authorities later admitted them to a private hospital for treatment.
Police said another Chinese national may also have been injured during the confrontation. Members of the opposing group allegedly removed him from the scene, raising concerns that they may have abducted him.
Investigators have not yet established what caused the altercation.
Officers searching a suspicious vehicle linked to the incident discovered a pistol and a communication device. Police took both items into custody for further examination.
The Colombo Harbour Police have launched an investigation into the Port City clash, the alleged abduction and the origin of the firearm.
Meanwhile, the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka confirmed that it is closely monitoring the case.
The embassy urged Sri Lankan authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and protect the safety and legitimate interests of Chinese nationals living in the country.
Police inquiries into the confrontation and the missing man are continuing.
