Coal procurement allegations intensify as Champika Ranawaka says he submitted evidence linking the President to the purchase of 30 coal ships.
Former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka says the coal procurement allegations involving 30 shipments are backed by evidence that he has already submitted to authorities.
Ranawaka made the claim during a discussion on an internet channel, where he said he had filed two complaints with the Presidential Commission of Inquiry.
His first complaint concerns JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva.
Ranawaka alleges that Silva undermined the independence of the Commission by stating that it had been appointed “to free their own people and punish the old ones.”

The second complaint concerns President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
Ranawaka says he submitted evidence to the Commission relating to what he describes as the fraudulent procurement of 30 coal ships.
He further claims that scientific and other evidence was provided regarding the alleged economic losses caused by the process and factors that contributed to power cuts.
The coal procurement allegations remain claims made by Ranawaka and have not been established as findings in the material provided.
Ranawaka also said he had given a statement to the police regarding the matter.
“This is not just a rumor, but a complaint with scientific facts. I will wait until the Commission’s six-month period ends and their report is released. After that, I am prepared to make public all the evidence and documents I possess,” Ranawaka said.
His remarks place renewed attention on the Commission and whether its final report will address the allegations surrounding the coal procurement process.
