Police are investigating the sudden death of Sri Lankan model and actress Chulpadmendra Kumarapathirana, who was found unresponsive in Piliyandala.
PILIYANDALA, Sri Lanka — Police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the sudden and mysterious death of veteran Sri Lankan model, actress, and pageant trainer Chulpadmendra Kumarapathirana.
The 46-year-old prominent figure in the country’s fashion industry was found dead under suspicious circumstances at a luxury residence in the “CI Gardens” housing scheme along Gangaramaya Road in Wewala, Piliyandala.
According to initial reports from the Piliyandala Police, Chulpadmendra had arrived at the residence with a prominent businessman in the early hours of the morning following a beauty pageant event she had organized and managed in Battaramulla.
Preliminary inquiries indicate that the businessman found her unresponsive on a bed. Upon checking on her, he reportedly noticed blood coming from her mouth and stains on the pillow. Emergency Suwasariya ambulance personnel rushed to the location, where she was pronounced dead.
The investigation has taken a complex turn as authorities examine the background of the residence and the individuals involved. The owner of the residence, who is reportedly linked to the events leading up to her death, is said to be a well-known businessman who contested the recent parliamentary election under the “Gas Cylinder” symbol. Investigators have also noted that both individuals were married to other people.
In light of the circumstances surrounding the death, Chulpadmendra’s mother has formally lodged a complaint with the Piliyandala Police expressing suspicion over her daughter’s death and urging authorities to conduct a thorough investigation to establish the exact sequence of events that led to her death.
A magistrate’s inspection of the scene has been scheduled, while the remains have been sent for a formal post-mortem examination by a Judicial Medical Officer to determine the exact cause of death.
Chulpadmendra was a celebrated figure in Sri Lanka’s fashion and entertainment industries. Over a career spanning more than two decades, she made her mark as an actress, gaining recognition through television dramas such as Wahinna Muthu Wessak. She also represented Sri Lanka internationally, winning a Press Award at the Miss Tourism Model of the World pageant in Tanzania in 2006.
In recent years, she dedicated herself to mentoring the next generation of models as a prominent catwalk coach and studio director. Her sudden death has left Sri Lanka’s fashion, arts, and entertainment communities in deep shock.
