Persistent Müllerian Duct Syndrome was diagnosed in a 24-year-old man in New Delhi after scans revealed a uterus and fallopian tubes.
A 24-year-old man in New Delhi, India, sought medical treatment at a hospital in the Rajouri Garden area after experiencing infertility issues following several years of marriage.
Although the young man had normal male external physical characteristics, medical examinations revealed that his sperm count was zero. Further scans conducted by doctors uncovered a fully developed uterus and fallopian tubes inside his abdomen. Additionally, both of his testicles had failed to descend into the scrotum and were instead located within the abdominal cavity.
According to the medical team, this extremely rare condition is known as Persistent Müllerian Duct Syndrome (PMDS).
Doctors noted that because of the risk of future complications, including the possibility of cancer developing in the undescended testicles, proper medical monitoring and intervention were necessary. Consequently, the patient underwent minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery to safely address the uterus and other associated structures found in his abdomen.
Medical professionals said the case is exceptionally rare and highlights the importance of undergoing thorough medical examinations when dealing with infertility or reproductive health concerns.
