Police are investigating the death of teacher and cultural activist Vanitha Senathirajah, whose body was found at a lodge in Minneriya.
COLOMBO — Police have launched an investigation after teacher and cultural activist Vanitha Senathirajah was found dead at a lodging facility in Minneriya, Polonnaruwa, under circumstances authorities have classified as suspicious.
Senathirajah was a teacher at Vavuniya Kovilkulam Hindu College and was also known for her involvement in civic and cultural activities in the Vavuniya region.
She served as a member of the Vavuniya Special Land Mediation Board and was actively involved in art, poetry and literary initiatives.
Minneriya Police recovered her body from a local guesthouse after being alerted to the incident. Investigators are now examining the circumstances and sequence of events surrounding her death.
An official cause of death has not yet been announced and is expected to depend on the findings of the post-mortem examination and the continuing police investigation.
News of Senathirajah’s death has prompted expressions of concern across educational, cultural and community circles in Vavuniya, where she was known through her professional and civic work.
Authorities have urged the public to rely on verified information as the inquiry proceeds and to avoid circulating unconfirmed claims on social media.
