A Colombo court has ordered the forfeiture of Rs. 40 million in bail bonds after Priyanka Niyomali failed to appear in the Airbus investigation.
COLOMBO – The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court has ordered the forfeiture of Rs. 40 million in bail bonds following the failure of Priyanka Niyomali, wife of former SriLankan Airlines CEO Kapila Chandrasena, to appear before court in connection with the high-profile Airbus corruption investigation.
The total amount comprises two separate bail bonds of Rs. 20 million each, originally furnished by former Sri Lankan cricket captain Aravinda de Silva and his wife, Priyangi Niyomali Wijenayake, who acted as sureties for the suspect.
During proceedings, legal counsel representing the sureties appeared in open court alongside Mr. and Mrs. de Silva and informed the court that Rs. 20 million would be paid immediately, with arrangements to settle the remaining balance.
Magistrate Pasan Amarasena ruled that warrants issued for the suspect remain in force as she continues to remain overseas and has failed to appear before court.
The development marks another significant stage in the long-running, multi-jurisdictional investigation into alleged corruption surrounding SriLankan Airlines’ aircraft procurement arrangements with Airbus.
