Sri Lanka’s Bribery Commission questioned former Treasury Secretary P.B. Jayasundara for nearly four hours over the Airbus procurement investigation.
COLOMBO – Officials from Sri Lanka’s Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) recorded a nearly four-hour statement from former Treasury and Finance Ministry Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundara regarding ongoing investigations into the controversial Airbus aircraft procurement deal.
According to investigative sources, anti-corruption officials visited Dr. Jayasundara’s residence in Nikaweratiya to conduct the lengthy questioning session.
The inquiry centres on financial transactions and allegations tied to the high-profile Airbus aircraft deal. Dr. Jayasundara served as Secretary to the Treasury and Ministry of Finance from September 2009 to January 2015, the period during which the transactions under scrutiny took place.
He later served as Secretary to former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa from 2019 until 2022.
No formal charges have been announced against Dr. Jayasundara at this stage, and the investigation remains open as the Bribery Commission continues to gather evidence and question other individuals connected to the case.
