(COLOMBO) – The wife of a Sri Lankan District Judge died of a heart attack after her police inspector brother slapped her husband following a heated argument over their pet cat, police said on Wednesday.
They said the incident occurred while the victim and her husband were visiting the woman’s family home in the southern town of Galle that is situated some 145 kilometres away from the commercial capital of Colombo.
According to police the altercation began after the cat went missing during the visit to the victim’s family home.
The 45-year-old woman was rushed to a Government hospital in a state of shock but succumbed while being treated in intensive care, police said.
The police Inspector was subsequently arrested and enlarged on bail after he was produced before a local Magistrate.
