Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa revealed that the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (Pohottuwa) will announce its presidential candidate on July 29. During a press interaction, he answered several questions:
Journalist: “How is the condition of the candidate?”
Rajapaksa: “We will decide on Monday. Wait until Monday.”
Journalist: “Did we see Mr. Dhammika Perera with you?”
Rajapaksa: “Sitting together. Our MP.”
Journalist: “Has the President announced in Galle that he will contest the presidential election?”
Rajapaksa: “Yes, very good.”
Journalist: “Will he be supported?”
Rajapaksa: “No… we support the nominee from our party. It should be decided by our party. If asked to support him, we will give more. But if the party says that there will be someone else against him, we will agree to that.”
Rajapaksa clarified that the party will make the final decision, and any support will be based on the party’s choice.
