In a fiery statement that could shake the political establishment, Duminda Nagamuwa, a prominent executive member of the People’s Struggle Alliance, has called for the National People’s Power (NPP) Party to be granted their rightful opportunity to form administrations in local government bodies. His remarks come in the wake of growing speculation that political maneuvering is underway to undermine the NPP’s success.
Nagamuwa emphasized that the NPP, having secured more seats than any other single party, has earned the public’s mandate. “The fact that they received the highest number of seats shows that the people have approved their policies,” he said. “They must now be given the chance to implement those policies. The people deserve to see what they do with power.”
Warning against what he described as “conspiratorial programs,” Nagamuwa asserted that no one should be allowed to obstruct the will of the voters. He urged political rivals and power brokers to respect democratic principles and refrain from backdoor tactics aimed at denying the NPP its victories.
In a declaration of political neutrality, Nagamuwa also clarified that members elected under the People’s Struggle Alliance would not side with either the ruling party or the traditional opposition in forming control of any local assembly.
With tensions rising over local government formations, his message is clear: respect the people’s voice or face the consequences.
