- Mixed queus at all voting centers barring centers in the Eastern Province
September 11, 2024 – In a move to accommodate a request made by the LGBTQI community, the Election Commission has announced that mixed queues will be established at polling stations for the upcoming presidential election on September 21. This decision is intended to offer suchvoters the flexibility to choose their preferred queue, ensuring a more comfortable voting experience.
The Election Commission emphasized that this initiative is in response to the made request aiming to make the voting process as inclusive and accessible as possible.
However, the commission has noted that this arrangement will not extend in the Eastern Province.
Due to cultural and religious considerations, the mixed queue system will not be implemented in these areas. Instead, traditional practices will be followed to respect local customs and beliefs.
This approach reflects the Election Commission’s commitment to accommodating diverse voter needs, while balancing regional sensitivities.
The measure is part of ongoing efforts to ensure a fair and accessible electoral process for all citizens.
