Sajith Premadasa, the presidential candidate of Samagi Jana Balavega, has vowed to usher in a “golden age” of free healthcare in Sri Lanka after the upcoming presidential election on the 21st. Speaking at a health conference in Colombo on the 14th, Premadasa outlined his vision for transforming the country’s healthcare system.
“After the 21st, we will have the opportunity to address the pressing questions we have asked ourselves regarding the health sector. We cannot build a strong healthcare system with only public investment and funds. A new approach is necessary,” Premadasa emphasized.
He further revealed plans to launch a foster care system for every MOH division and hospital, coupled with a charitable initiative to enhance healthcare funding. Premadasa also acknowledged that while government investment is important, it alone is insufficient to elevate the nation’s healthcare.
Highlighting the importance of preventive healthcare, he affirmed that efforts are underway to ensure a healthier population. Premadasa concluded by expressing his dedication to providing the necessary support to achieve this golden era of free health at both the state and non-state levels.
