The police have revealed details about the tragic incident involving a schoolgirl who committed suicide by jumping from the 29th floor of the Nelum Kuluna (Lotus Tower) in the Maradana police jurisdiction. The girl, identified as a 16-year-old resident of the Kollupitiya area, was a Year 11 student at an international school in Colombo.
The investigation has uncovered that after finishing school on the day of the incident, the girl went to the Lotus Tower and took her own life by leaping from the 29th floor to the 3rd floor of the tower. In a heartbreaking connection, the girl was reportedly a friend of two students—a schoolboy and schoolgirl—who had committed suicide by jumping from an apartment complex in the Slave Island police domain a few months ago. According to a statement made by her father, she had been under significant emotional stress following that incident.
An autopsy has already been conducted, and the body has been placed in the Colombo Police Mortuary for further post-mortem examination. Maradana Police are continuing their investigations into the matter.
