The Lanka Electricity Board (CEB) is facing a critical deadline, with just 48 hours remaining for the payment of Christmas bonuses to its employees. The Electricity Employees’ Union had formally notified the CEB chairman, urging that the bonuses be disbursed before December 10th.
In their letter, the union highlighted a longstanding issue, noting that the previous administration had failed to grant Christmas bonuses to CEB employees for the past two years. The union pointed out that since the Lanka Electricity Board is no longer operating at a loss, it is now financially capable of fulfilling this obligation.
Union General Secretary Ranjan emphasized that the request to pay the bonuses was made in light of the new government’s promise to address such matters. He recently reiterated the demand to the chairman, stressing that the workers had been waiting for the bonuses as part of their annual benefits.
With the deadline fast approaching, there is mounting pressure on the CEB to fulfill the promise and meet the union’s expectations, especially as workers have expressed frustration over the delays in previous years. The resolution of this issue is seen as a critical step toward improving employee morale and ensuring that the workers are adequately compensated for their contributions.
