Sri Lanka is set to unveil its first seven-star luxury hotel, located amidst the serene Knuckles Mountain Range, in 2025. The project, named Aviyana Private Chalets, aims to revolutionize the country’s hospitality industry, bringing world-class luxury to a picturesque natural setting.
Speaking at a media briefing at Cinnamon Life, Dr. Thisara Hewawasam, CEO of Aviyana Hotels, shared insights into the project’s development. He revealed that approximately 70% of the funding, amounting to nearly 10 billion rupees, was raised locally. Around 200 Sri Lankans, including professionals, contributed to the financing of the massive venture.
The hotel, which spans 27 acres, will feature 60 star-class chalets with unique architectural designs. It is expected to generate an annual revenue of USD 500 million and is poised to significantly impact Sri Lanka’s economy.
Dr. Hewawasam encouraged more local investors to join the project, emphasizing its role in showcasing the potential of Sri Lanka’s tourism sector. “We are the largest investment-generating hotel of its kind, designed to attract high-end global travelers,” he said.
The CEO highlighted the importance of tourism as a pillar for Sri Lanka’s economic recovery. With its premium offerings and unparalleled location, Aviyana Private Chalets is expected to draw affluent tourists and boost Sri Lanka’s global reputation as a luxury travel destination.
The project began in 2019, before the disruptions of the Covid-19 pandemic. Remarkably, it was developed without reliance on bank loans or foreign funds, showcasing the resilience and confidence of local investors.
As anticipation builds for the opening in 2025, the Aviyana Private Chalets project symbolizes a bold step forward for Sri Lanka’s hospitality industry and its vision for economic revival through sustainable tourism.
