Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Member of Parliament Kabir Hashim stated that his party and its allies might soon need to assume control of the government, citing the country’s current challenges and deteriorating conditions.
Speaking to the media after a public ceremony, Hashim explained that he is actively preparing for this possibility by acquiring additional knowledge and resources to ensure a smooth transition and effective governance.
“We are closely observing the situation,” Hashim said. “While we are not in a rush to take over power, it is becoming increasingly clear that the current administration has failed to address the pressing issues facing the country. When the time comes, we must be ready to step in.”
Despite his confidence in the SJB’s ability to lead, Hashim acknowledged that the current government still holds a significant mandate granted by the people. “They have been entrusted with the responsibility to govern, and they still have the opportunity to turn things around if they act responsibly,” he remarked.
Hashim’s comments reflect growing frustration among opposition leaders and citizens alike, as Sri Lanka continues to face economic and political uncertainty. His statement signals the SJB’s readiness to step into leadership should the current government falter further.
