MP Namal Rajapaksa has stated that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa could have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize had he signed a memorandum of understanding with the LTTE during his presidency.
Speaking to the media, Namal Rajapaksa, who is also the national organizer of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, said, “Our father chose to do what needed to be done instead. He faced the challenge head-on, and we have endured the consequences.”
Reflecting on the aftermath of the LTTE’s defeat, he added, “We, and even our children, have had to bear the repercussions of that decision. We knew this would happen from the beginning.”
Despite the obstacles, Namal Rajapaksa affirmed their commitment to continuing their political journey, saying, “We will face these challenges and continue our politics, no matter what.”
