Colombo Archbishop His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith has announced that the true details and mechanisms behind the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks will be unveiled in the coming days. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the new Dhamma school building at St. Anne’s Church in Kurana, Negombo, the cardinal accused political leaders of engaging in corrupt and destructive actions to gain and maintain power, neglecting their responsibilities and integrity.
Cardinal Ranjith emphasized that the Easter Sunday attacks, which claimed over 270 lives and injured hundreds, were part of such destructive acts. He expressed confidence that the truth behind the attacks, which has been shrouded in mystery and controversy, will soon come to light despite attempts to conceal it.
“No matter how much those individuals try to hide and suppress the truth, the mechanism behind the Easter attack and its truth will be revealed in a few days,” the cardinal stated.
The Archbishop has been a vocal critic of the government’s handling of the investigation into the attacks, repeatedly calling for transparency and accountability. He has accused authorities of failing to bring the true perpetrators and masterminds to justice, suggesting that the attacks may have been exploited for political gain.
The Easter Sunday bombings, which targeted churches and hotels across Sri Lanka on April 21, 2019, remain one of the deadliest acts of terrorism in the country’s history. While several individuals linked to the attacks have been arrested and prosecuted, questions about the full extent of the plot and potential lapses in intelligence and security have persisted.
Cardinal Ranjith’s latest remarks have reignited public interest in the case, with many hoping for a breakthrough in uncovering the truth. His statement also underscores the ongoing demand for justice from the victims’ families and the Catholic community, who have waited over four years for answers.
As the nation awaits further developments, the Archbishop’s declaration has raised expectations that long-awaited revelations about the Easter Sunday attacks may finally be disclosed.
