Dr. Thushara Ratnayake has been appointed as the new Chairperson of the Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Authority (SLAEA), marking a significant milestone in the leadership of the country’s nuclear science and energy sector.
The appointment was officially made by the Minister of Energy, Eng. Kumara Jayakody, as part of the government’s initiative to strengthen the nation’s nuclear research and development framework.
Dr. Ratnayake is a distinguished academic and expert in the field of nuclear engineering. She holds a PhD from the prestigious University of Tokyo, Japan, and is currently the only Sri Lankan with a doctoral degree in Nuclear Engineering. Her expertise spans nuclear power, radiation safety, and advanced energy systems.
In addition to her new role at SLAEA, Dr. Ratnayake serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Moratuwa, where she has contributed significantly to the development of Sri Lanka’s scientific and technological research landscape.
Her appointment is expected to drive forward Sri Lanka’s nuclear energy policies, promote research in nuclear technology, and ensure the safe and efficient use of atomic energy for national development.
