National People’s Power (NPP) MP Kaushalya Ariyaratne has publicly protested against a controversial statement made in Parliament by Deputy Minister Nalin Hewage.
In a post on her social media account, Ariyaratne stated that she personally does not approve of the remarks made in Parliament regarding a woman, indicating her strong disapproval of Hewage’s statement.
The issue arose after Deputy Minister Nalin Hewage made a remark targeting SJB MP Rohini Kaviratne, leading to heated exchanges in Parliament. Following the backlash, Chief Organizer of the Government Party, Minister Nalinda Jayatissa, confirmed that the offensive statement would be removed from the Hansard report.
Ariyaratne’s protest highlights the growing concerns over the language and conduct of parliamentary debates, particularly in addressing female MPs.
