Professor Nirmal Ranjith Dewasiri has stated that the government must clarify its stance on tackling the underworld, particularly whether it intends to suppress criminal activities through extrajudicial killings.
Speaking on the current administration’s performance, Dewasiri pointed out that the government has yet to establish full control over the state. He attributed this to the lack of governing experience among the rulers, emphasizing that their political background has primarily been in opposition politics.
He further noted that this government, except for a brief period in power, has largely operated from the opposition, which has resulted in a lack of administrative expertise. However, he stressed that this is not a matter of shame, but rather a structural issue that comes with transitioning from opposition politics to governance.
