The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) conducted a search operation at the residence of former IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon, following a court order issued by the Matara Magistrate’s Court for his arrest.
However, when officers arrived at his house, Tennakoon was not present, raising questions about his whereabouts.
The arrest warrant was issued in connection with the death of a police officer during a shooting incident at a hotel in Weligama, Matara, on December 31, 2023. The case has drawn significant attention due to its high-profile nature and the involvement of senior police officials.
Addressing Parliament yesterday, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake stated that the former IGP had gone into hiding when the police attempted to execute the court order. However, he also expressed confidence that Tennakoon would surrender either today or tomorrow.
With the search operation ongoing, authorities are intensifying efforts to locate Deshabandu Tennakoon, as the case continues to unfold.
