Port Trade Unions have alleged that an individual claiming to be the personal secretary of a minister in the current government is illegally occupying a luxury residence in Colombo 7, owned by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority.
The house, typically reserved for the highest-ranking officials of the Ports Authority, was reportedly allocated to the private secretary under the guise of an emergency.
The issue was raised during a recent budget debate in Parliament, yet trade union representatives claim that the individual continues to reside there unlawfully.
Union leaders argue that since the minister in charge is not currently occupying the official residence, the secretary has no legal right to stay there. They further allege that the house was provided without the approval of the Ports Authority Housing Committee.
