The previous government’s plan to sell the historic Nuwara Eliya Post Office has been halted, according to Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Nalinda Jayatissa.
During a Cabinet media briefing held today, Minister Jayatissa stated that the Nuwara Eliya Post Office will remain under the management of the Sri Lanka Postal Department and will not be removed from its authority under the current government.
However, he added that the government aims to use the post office for more than just postal services. The intention is to promote tourism by developing the post office as a tourist attraction, enhancing its value without compromising its core functions.
Minister Jayatissa further noted that the Urban Development Authority and the Sri Lanka Postal Department will be engaged to support this initiative.
