National People’s Force MP Shanakyan Rasamanickam has revealed that his party has reached out to former State Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan better known as Pillayan and his political group in an effort to form a governing body in the Batticaloa Municipal Council.
Rasamanickam claimed that the National People’s Force (also known as the Compass alliance) was willing to explore “unconventional measures” to gain control over the council, hinting at behind-the-scenes negotiations and political realignments.
Despite these efforts, the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has successfully taken charge of the Batticaloa Municipal Council. According to Rasamanickam, a TNA mayor has already assumed office with the backing of two MPs from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), consolidating the alliance’s control over the local body.
The disclosure signals rising political tension and shifting alliances in the Eastern Province as various parties position themselves ahead of future electoral contests.
