Former MP Premanath Dolawatta cautions that removing Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya could shatter the government’s two-thirds majority, with 54 MPs poised to break away and sit as independents.
Former Parliamentarian Premanath Dolawatta has warned that if Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya is removed from office, the current government will lose its crucial two-thirds majority in Parliament. He stated that as many as 54 MPs would leave the ruling coalition and declare themselves independents in such a scenario.
Speaking on the ongoing political turbulence surrounding the Supreme Sat satellite controversy, Dolawatta noted that the Prime Minister had openly revealed the truth about the satellite’s status. He also pointed out that claims regarding hidden US dollars in Tusadawa had been retracted by the very person who originally made the allegation.
Dolawatta’s remarks highlight the fragile balance of power within the government and the potential political chaos that could follow any move against the Prime Minister.
