The ICC has fined the Sri Lanka Cricket Team five percent of their match fees after failing to complete overs on time during the first ODI against Zimbabwe, with skipper Charith Asalanka accepting responsibility.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed today (31) that the Sri Lanka Cricket Team has been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during the opening ODI clash with Zimbabwe.
Match officials found that Sri Lanka fell short of the required number of overs within the stipulated time frame, a breach under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.
As a result, the team has been fined five percent of their match fee.
In its statement, the ICC noted that Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, meaning no formal hearing was necessary.
This ruling serves as another reminder of the ICC’s strict stance on over-rate offences, as teams continue to face penalties for delays on the field.
