A chilling warning has been raised over the safety of Namal Rajapaksa, with Attorney at Law Manoj Gamage claiming there may be a plan within the government itself to eliminate the former minister.
Attorney at Law Manoj Gamage, speaking during a program on Hiru TV, expressed grave concerns about the possibility of a plot targeting Namal Rajapaksa. According to him, recent events have raised doubts that the young political leader, widely seen as a potential challenger in the future, could be facing a very real danger to his life.
Gamage revealed that information had surfaced showing the name “Namal” on the phone of a person currently in custody. While he clarified that he knows whose name it refers to, he alleged that a deliberate attempt is underway to link Namal Rajapaksa to underworld figures in order to tarnish his reputation. He warned that such tactics could one day be used to justify violence against him, with fabricated narratives suggesting he was involved with criminal gangs.
He stressed that the situation is deeply alarming. “The day after tomorrow Namal Rajapaksa could be shot, and then it will be said he had underworld ties. This is exactly how they cover up killings in this country,” he said. He declared that as a lawyer and a citizen, he will not stand by while lies are used to destroy the Rajapaksa family.
The Attorney at Law further highlighted a disturbing pattern where every assassination in Sri Lanka is dismissed as an underworld dispute. He argued that this mindset creates a culture of impunity and endangers the lives of anyone who dares to challenge the government.
Gamage also criticized the police for what he described as deliberate negligence. Normally, when threats are reported, security is provided. But today, he claimed, the police wait silently until blood is spilled. He pointed out that according to media reports, police had stated there was “no death threat” in relation to a recent letter, showing that they now only recognize a threat once someone is actually shot.
He warned that this normalization of violence has created a climate where the lives of political figures, and even ordinary citizens who stand against government policies, are increasingly at risk. By downplaying or dismissing threats, law enforcement, in his view, is enabling a dangerous new reality where leaders like Namal Rajapaksa could be targeted without consequence.
In conclusion, Gamage emphasized that this is no longer simply about politics. It is about the safety of individuals in a country where power struggles, character assassinations, and the manipulation of underworld narratives have become tools to silence opposition. His warning serves as a reminder that Sri Lanka’s political landscape remains volatile, and unless protection and accountability are enforced, the cost could be the lives of those who dare to oppose.

“Attorney General” ? …. really? Has he ever been Attorney General, I doubt it. He is an Attorney at Law and was Presidential Spokesman for a time when MR was President – and that alone fully explains his partisan fantasising.
