Sri Lanka vs India Test Day 2 saw Dhruv Jurel hit 115 not out as India declared on 503/9 before Sri Lanka slipped to 8/2 in Colombo.
COLOMBO — Dhruv Jurel struck an unbeaten century before India’s bowlers removed two Sri Lankan wickets late on Day 2 to leave the hosts under severe pressure in the second Test at the Sinhalese Sports Club.
India declared their first innings on 503 for nine, with Jurel finishing unbeaten on 115 after Devdutt Padikkal’s 117 had laid the foundation on the opening day.
Resuming on 300 for five, India continued to build through Jurel and Rishabh Pant, who added 112 runs for the seventh wicket. Pant made 63, while Jurel patiently completed his second Test hundred.
Asitha Fernando was Sri Lanka’s best bowler, finishing with 4 for 60.
Sri Lanka then endured a disastrous start to their reply. Lahiru Udara fell for one to Prasidh Krishna before nightwatchman Prabath Jayasuriya was trapped lbw for two by Manav Suthar.
The hosts closed on 8 for two, still 495 runs behind India.
With India already leading the two-Test series 1-0, Sri Lanka now face a crucial Day 3. A strong partnership will be essential if they are to avoid the follow-on and keep the Colombo Test alive.
