A fresh arrest revives a high-profile corruption saga, as investigators move deeper into alleged money laundering tied to political power and unanswered questions.
Former Minister Keheliya Rambukwella’s eldest daughter, Chamitri Rambukwella, has been arrested once again by officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption. Authorities say the arrest relates to an ongoing probe into alleged money laundering involving Rs. 300 million, intensifying scrutiny on the case.
Investigators confirmed that the detention follows renewed findings under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, as financial trails are re-examined. Chamitri Rambukwella was previously arrested in June last year on similar charges and was later released on bail, pending further investigations.
Officials say inquiries are continuing, with the latest arrest signaling a tougher stance on corruption, illicit finance, and accountability involving politically connected individuals.
