The globally respected architect behind cricket’s Duckworth Lewis Stern system is set to visit Sri Lanka for an inspiring national academic tour focused on analytics, statistics, and future global careers for Sri Lankan students.
Sirus Migration and Education has announced that internationally renowned statistician Prof. Steven Stern will visit Sri Lanka from 11th to 14th March 2026 for a special national academic engagement programme focused on analytics, mathematics, and global career pathways.
Organised in partnership with Bond University, the initiative reflects Sirus Migration’s ongoing effort to connect Sri Lankan students and professionals with world class academic knowledge and emerging data driven industries.
Prof. Stern is widely recognised as the custodian of the Duckworth Lewis Stern method used by the International Cricket Council to determine results in rain affected limited overs matches. His presence in Sri Lanka offers a rare opportunity to understand the statistical modelling and mathematical precision behind one of cricket’s most influential systems.
Beyond cricket, the engagement programme will highlight the broader importance of mathematics, data science, and analytics in shaping modern industries. The sessions will examine sports analytics, actuarial science, statistical modelling, and how analytical skills open doors to international employment opportunities.
Students, academics, and professionals will be able to interact directly with Prof. Stern through a series of discussions focused on both technical knowledge and career development.
The national academic series begins on 11th March with sessions at the British School Colombo and the University of Colombo Department of Statistics, Faculty of Science.
On 12th March, Prof. Stern will attend the historic Royal Thomian Big Match, connecting the spirit of cricket with the science behind the game. On 13th March he will speak at Royal College Colombo and later headline the main public event at the BMICH Lotus Hall from 4.00 PM to 7.00 PM.
The visit concludes on 14th March with a Sirus Migration Open Day dedicated to Bond University education pathways.
