Sanjay Dutt apologized before India’s NCW over the controversial KD The Devil song, denying any role in its lyrics or final presentation.
Sanjay Dutt appeared before the Indian National Commission for Women on April 27 after controversy erupted over the song “Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke” from his latest film ‘KD The Devil’.
The veteran Bollywood actor was summoned following allegations that the song contained obscene content. The issue quickly drew public attention as criticism mounted over the lyrics and presentation of the Hindi version of the song.
Appearing before the Commission, Sanjay Dutt apologized for the incident. He explained that he had no involvement whatsoever in the lyrics, composition, translation, or final presentation of the song.
The actor emphasized that his role was limited to performing as an actor under contractual obligation. He also stated that he was unaware of the specific words used in the song at the time of recording.
Sanjay Dutt appeared before the Commission with his legal team, led by advocate Hemant Shah. During the inquiry, he stated that he has immense respect for women’s honour and social values.
He assured the Commission that he would exercise stringent caution in his creative work in the future to avoid involvement in any content that could be seen as disrespectful.
In a significant gesture, Sanjay Dutt voluntarily agreed to sponsor the educational expenses of 50 girls from the tribal community in the Nagpur area for the upcoming academic year.
He is expected to submit the relevant confirmation reports to the Commission within three months.
Speaking to the media after the inquiry, advocate Hemant Shah said the actor was unaware of the words because the song had been recorded in another language. However, he said Sanjay Dutt apologized to the Commission out of respect for women.
The controversy has also led to action online. Following strong criticism, authorities have taken steps to remove the Hindi version of the song from YouTube.
The song “Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke” is from ‘KD The Devil’, directed by Prem and starring Dhruv Sarja. The film was scheduled for release on April 30.
The controversial track is a Hindi adaptation of a Kannada song titled “Sarse Ninna.”
However, questions remain over how such content passed through the creative and production process before triggering formal scrutiny from the National Commission for Women.
What happens next could be critical, as the controversy may push actors, producers, translators, and music teams to take greater responsibility for adapted songs before they reach the public.
