Yoshitha Rajapaksa case moves forward after Colombo High Court rejects defence objection in money laundering proceedings.
Yoshitha Rajapaksa case proceedings took a major turn today (14) after the Colombo High Court rejected a preliminary objection filed by the defence.
The case, filed under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Udesh Ranatunga.
During proceedings, the defence argued that the charge of conspiracy against the accused could not be sustained.
However, delivering the ruling, the judge stated that the preliminary objection lacked merit and dismissed it.
The court further held that there was no legal barrier to proceeding with the relevant charge against the accused.
Following the ruling, the charges against Yoshitha Rajapaksa were formally read out in open court.
Rajapaksa, speaking from the dock, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Subsequently, the Colombo High Court commenced the trial proceedings.
