Fonseka says Mahinda Rajapaksa was never on the battlefield and vows to act against corruption if given a position.
Fonseka has declared that if he is given a position, he can rid the country of the Rajapaksas and corrupt individuals.
Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka said former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was neither a corporal nor a person who operated on the battlefield.
“Mahinda Rajapaksa was never seen on the battlefield during that time. To our knowledge, he wasn’t even there as a corporal,” Fonseka said.
He said that to take over the country at that time, one needed to wear a uniform and move forward.
“How can you say you saved the country by shouting from Colombo? You have to face the enemy with self-sacrifice,” he added.
Fonseka further stated that if he is given a position, he could very easily rid the country of corrupt individuals.
He said the world has seen how strong leaders stopped corruption.
According to Fonseka, if one works fearlessly and takes tough decisions when necessary, corruption can be finished.
“When you hit the right places with two or three blows, they just stop,” he said.
He described the Rajapaksas as inflated corrupt characters.
Fonseka further alleged that they are a group nourished by bribery, corruption, and fraud.
He claimed that suppressing them would be a very small task.
“The day I take on a position, the Rajapaksas will not be in this country,” Fonseka said.
